Art in the Bossche bridge keeper’s houses

Upon closer inspection, it is immediately clear: the characteristic bridge keeper’s house of the Anthoniebrug has undergone a true metamorphosis. Life-size photos of a meticulously experienced clockmaker adorn the windows, and enthusiastic voices can be heard from a speaker. Stories by the 82-year-old former lockkeeper Cees Bouwmans, and local resident, clockmaker Frank van Nuus, which have been recorded by artist Monique Broekman.

Art projects

Her installation ‘In the meantime’ opens a series of art projects in the three bridge keeper’s houses. An idea from art curators Imke van Dillen (Brugwachtershuisjes Brabant Foundation) and Ivonne van der Velden. “With these art projects, we want to strengthen the bond between the local residents and these special bridge keeper’s houses,” says Van Dillen.

Until mid-September 2017, various installations and projects are planned in the cottages. Malou van Doormaal will soon start work in the nearby house on the Hinthamerbrug. From February, Marianne van Heeswijk will take care of the house on the Orthenbrug.
